Welcome To First Baptist Church
Greetings and welcome to the official website of the First Baptist Church of East Chicago, Indiana. My wife and I pray that your lives be filled with all the joy, peace, love and prosperity that God has promised to all that follow Him. The purpose for this site is to serve as a resource of inspiration, evangelism, salvation, and education all to the glory of God through our Lord Jesus Christ.
We believe that if we are to be empowered like the early church, then we as His disciples must be committed to great things. Whether you are a Pastor, leader of a Christian organization, Deacon, Elder, youth worker, Sunday School teacher, parent, spouse, or market place individual, you have the opportunity to be “impact players”.
To make an impact in our community, we strongly believe that there are functions of ministries that cannot be compromised nor negotiated. These functions are evangelism, discipleship, and baptism (identification) Matthew 28:19-20.
Please feel free to allow the Holy Spirit to guide you through our site that it may be a source of information and inspiration to you and your ministry.

Notes From The Pastor's Study
"Etiquette in the Christian Church"
With the adoption of" come as you are" and casual dress days in the local church, we have too often sent the wrong signal that there is no boundaries or proper dress, conduct or behavior for the Contemporary Christian. As a result, there is a growing disrespect for the House of Worship.
Over the next several months, we will focus on proper church etiquette. In lay terms, how do Christians act in church and in the world. What are the Do's and Dont's of Public Worship. How do those who are not a part of the church perceive the church? Are there no limitations or guidelines for those who "walk by faith and not by sight"? What does grace require?
Point One
BE ON TIME. If possible, you need at least five minutes after your arrival at the church building to get prepared for worship. Even if you are attending a committee meeting, it must always be seen as an opportunity for worship. Arrive early to compose your body and mind to be sensitive to the Holy Spirit and to whisper a prayer before the service begins. Too many of our churches have misrepresented or PUBLICIZED and even ADVERTISED that worship begins at 10:45a.m., yet we consistently begin late or when a certain number of people arrive. BE ON TIME.
Point Two
WHEN NEVER TO WALK IN CHURCH. Never pass up the aisle during prayer or scripture reading. If you must be excused, your presence and movement will distract and draw attention away from the pulpit. Therefore, take great pains to leave as quietly as possible.
During the invitational period, no unnecessary walking should be allowed. This is an eternal time. Souls are hanging in the balance of salvation and damnation. Be very sensitive to the moving of the Holy Spirit during this period of worship
While praying, all walking and movement must cease. Ushers should close doors and turn toward the pulpit area to join also in the period of prayer.
When the Word of God is being read, all eyes, all ears, and all hearts should be turned in the direction of the reader. All other activities should "STOP".
When/If the sermon has begun, take a seat near the door. This applies even if you are at your home church and familiar with the seating arrangements.(No minister should ever walk into the pulpit after the sermon has begun unless invited by the pastor) Do not walk down the aisle looking for your "SPECIAL SEAT" unless the ushers lead you to that seat.
